A taste of the west: Looking to the past and future of food in Galway

The award-winning chef Jp McMahon, who is passionate about arts and food, has spoken about the upcoming Galway Food Festival, and what being crowned European Region of Gastronomy in 2018 would mean for Galway.

McMahon is spearheading this year´s Galway food Festival. This year´s event “Exploring 100 years of Irish Food” promises to offer visitors and locals alike a taste of the history of Irish food. According to McMahon, some chefs will be preparing dishes form different decades.

Galway is bidding to become European Region of Gastronomy in 2018 and McMahon says, if successful, this will put Galway on the international foodie stage. Now, the organisers are working on a five-year plan for Food on the Edge and will tie their event in appropriately with Galway´s bids to be European Region of Gastronomy 2018 and European Capital of Culture 2020.
