Ethiopia: Authority launches books on intangible cultural heritages

The Authority for Research and Conservation of Cultural Heritage yesterday launched five books revolving around the intangible cultural heritages in the country. Authority Intangible Cultural Heritages Registration Senior Expert Gezahagn Girma said that the Authority is doing its level best to preserve intangible cultural heritages through studying, registering and finally publicizing them to the public. The expert said that collecting data and documenting the cultural ceremonies has indispensable role in promoting the heritage and utilizing them for tourism.

According to him, the 11th Session of the World Intangible Cultural Heritages Conservation Intergovernmental Committee will select and approve the nominated intangible cultural heritages.

Presenting a study on Ashenda cultural festival, Authority Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory Senior Expert Kelemua Mekonnen emphasized that the youth is affected with globalization and losing own cultural assets. Thus, to motivate the youth and the next generation be proud of own culture and protect traditional assets further survey and study need to be done, she added.
