The final TPP text has just been released to the public. 792 million people live in countries that are party to this deal, yet this is the first any of us have officially been able to see the full text. The TPP or the Trans-Pacific Partnership, is a proposed free trade agreement between the U.S and 11 other trading partners bordering the Pacific Ocean including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam. It has many drawbacks and potentially could threaten local food production, weaken workers’ rights, and put corporations on the same level as sovereign nations, able to sue in special TPP courts to overturn protections for consumers and the environment.
