President launches National Nutrition Month

The national ceremony to declare open the National Nutrition Month was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute on Monday. The event is aimed at uplifting the nutrition level of Sri Lankans as the public is moving away from a healthy diet, as a result of a competitive society. People are opting for fast food, especially school children.

During the National Nutrition Month the public will be given information regarding food diversity and ways to cook food and preserve quality. The goal of the National Nutrition Month is to raise public awareness regarding the exact amount of food that should be on the plate and the variety of food it should contain.
