Minho, European Region of Gastronomy 2016 came under the spotlight during Brussels Open Days on 12 October 2016. A special reception was held to celebrate the award, hosted by the Confraria Gastronómica do Sarrabulho and presided by Francisco de Calheiros,Ambassador for Minho 216 and coordinator of Consórcio MINHO IN

Anja van Hout from IGCAT (International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism) spoke on behalf of the Platform proud that Minho 2016 year has brought 24 municipalities much closer together, through gastronomy and culture and that together with the European Region of Gastronomy Platform the region will gain much more visibility in Europe.

The European Region of Gastronomy Platform and Award aim to contribute to better quality of life in European regions, by highlighting distinctive food cultures, educating for better health and sustainability and stimulating gastronomic innovation. Working across and together with other European regions, the platform invites awareness of food and gastronomy as our unique European cultural heritage.

IGCAT (International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism) organises the award with the support of European institutions.
