US regulators have declared trans-fats are unsafe and must be banned within three years, they announced on Tuesday (16 June). The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said trans-fats are “not generally recognised as safe,” adding that a ban on the fats would save lives. Several countries, including Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland, Sweden and Austria have banned trans-fats. If these trans-fats will not be banned, what effect will this have when the TTIP trade agreement between the US and Europe will be signed and food regulations get threatened?
