The new UNESCO Global Report 2018 entitled Re|Shaping Cultural Policies is an invaluable tool for examining the progress to date of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. The convention was established in 2005 and is now ratified by 146 Parties, and aims to support sustainable cultural governance, exchange and integration across the world.

The 2018 Report has significantly improved the evaluation and monitoring of cultural policies compared to those in 2015. Furthermore, the Report clearly demonstrates that innovative cultural policies at a local level can make positive impacts right up to national government level.

The Report also examines how the 2005 Convention has stimulated policy change at the global and national level in ten areas of monitoring. It also presents a series of policy recommendations, focusing on the adaptation of cultural policies to the ever-changing the digital environment, with special consideration for  human rights and freedoms of expression.

The UNESCO Global Report 2018 was produced by ten independent experts, who have worked in conjunction with the Secretary of the Convention and the Principal Editor.
